Have you let Mother’s Day sneak up on you again this year? If you’re in the U.S., tomorrow is the big day! If you’ve left the gift preparations until the last minute, fear not. We’ve got a few suggestions for last-minute gifts that you can whip up or buy in no time at all.
1. Make a movie of family video clips with her favorite song in the background.
2. Buy a digital photo frame, take a bunch of pictures of you and the rest of the family in funny poses, and pre-load the frame with them before giving it to her.
3. Fill a basket/bucket/saucepan or another appropriate container with small trinkets that relate to one of her favorite activities. If she’s a gardener, get her some seed packets, gardening gloves, a trowel, and some decorative accessories for the garden. Put them into a flowerpot and put a big bow on top. For a mom who loves to cook, fill a large nonstick pot with some gourmet dried pasta, nice organic pasta sauce, and a coupon for one free meal prepared by you. Get creative with the contents of your personalized gift basket!
4. Make a photo collage of your favorite photos of your mom with various family members. This doesn’t have to be fancy or expensive - just print the photos out and glue them to posterboard if that’s what you have available. Pick the photos where Mom looks the prettiest - she’ll thank you for it.
5. Get her a gift certificate. It sounds cheesy, but at least Mom (or wife) will get to pick out what she really wants. If the idea of a gift certificate makes you groan, then get her one for a unique gift: guitar lessons, a computer tune-up, or a month’s worth of housekeeping service.
6. If you have kids, have them make their own special movie for their mom. Let them sing, dance, put on a play, or just give Mom a heartfelt message. She’s guaranteed to love a gift that comes straight from the kids.
7. Surprise your mom with a visit. Nothing says “I love you” quite like taking a train, plane, or car ride for the sole purpose of telling your mom how special she is to you. (Don’t let her wait on you while you’re there!)
8. Stick with the classics: make Mom a nice brunch. Even if you can’t cook, pick up some pastries and fresh fruit and surprise her in the morning. Don’t forget the champagne and orange juice for mimosas! Spend the day reliving your favorite moments with her.
