6 Creative Themes for Company Events
by lifehackery - All Posts By This Author

Company events such as awarding ceremonies, team building activities, and Christmas parties are always fun. Not only do they serve as welcome breaks from the regular eight-hour workday, they are also good ways to bond with other staff members. Today, companies create themes for their events to ensure the enjoyment of all the employees and guests. Here are several creative themes for company events:
1. Archie Comics Theme
Archie is a popular comic book that gives its readers a humorous take on high school life. Every staff member definitely misses his own wacky moments when he was still a high schooler. You might as well tap everyone’s inner child by applying the Archie Comics theme.
- Attire – Have the regular employees dress as Archie Andrews and the rest of his Riverdale batchmates. Each of the departments in your company should complete Archie’s gang. The managers, in turn, will play Mr. Weatherbee, Miss Grundy and the rest of the faculty members. Hire an all-female band and ask them to come in pussycat outfits. They will portray Josie and the Pussycats and play 80s New Wave music.
- Setup – Setup popular school fair sites like the jail booth, kissing booth and a cotton candy machine.
- Applicable Events – team building, company anniversary, year-end party
2. Mobster Theme
During the 1930s, mobsters flexed their muscles with their guns to influence communities. Tap your dark side this time by applying the mobster theme.
- Attire – Men will have to don white tuxedos and fedora hats, while women be in lavish Betty Boop-like wardrobes. The big bosses can smoke or bite a cigar, as a sign of power.
- Setup – The venue will be designed like a casino. You can rent real slot machines and roulette tables, or you can use well-made cardboard replicas. Ideally, the event should be held in a carpeted function room so that a formal setting is applied.
- Applicable Events – Halloween party, company anniversary, year-end party, product launch, employee commemoration
3. American Idol Theme
Sing your hearts out and trash talk your fellow employees. Ride the popularity wave of the reality talent show American Idol.
- Attire – Employees and guests can dress up from smart casual to downright wacky attires. Handpick three people to play the animated judges of the game show. One of the judges must toss semi-gangsta catchphrases from time to time, the next one should be extra-nice, and the last one must be pretty sarcastic and should be able to talk with a British accent.
- Setup – You could copy the show and organize your own singing contest, or you can just play any of the basic games found in most company events. Whatever happens, the winners of each game are decided by three judges. Of course, they will make comments about each team or contestant before declaring the winners.
- Applicable Events – Any company event
4. 80s Pop Culture Theme
Ah the 80s! Time flies when you’re having fun. Relive that memeorable era by organizing your very own 80s-inspired party right in the office.
- Attire – Men can sport either a Miami Vice or a Michael Jackson’s “Beat It” look. Putting on sunglasses with large lenses is highly advised. They can also come in roller skates, if they still remember how to use them. For the women, they have many choices, since 80s fashion is pretty diverse. They can wear a polka dot one-piece blouse with matching shoulder pads and oversized belt. They can also opt for the leggings-blouse-red ribbon combo. Don’t forget the hairspray!
- Setup – Any 80s theme is not complete without a dance number. Ask the staff members to form a dance group for each of the departments in the company. The teams will have to dance to the tunes of 80s New Wave. After the final number, a panel of judges will declare the best dance group and hand 80s-themed prizes to the winners. You can also set up an 80s nostalgia quiz show. Staff members will try to outdo each other with their knowledge on 80s pop culture. You can pattern the contest from popular 80s game shows like “Name That Tune”, “The Price is Right” and ” The $1,000,000 Chance of a Lifetime.”
- Applicable Events – Any company event
5. Children’s Party Theme
Kids rule! Why not reconnect with your memorable experiences as a child by organizing a cute kiddie party.
- Attire – Think of all the things that you and your playmates wore during your childhood. Ask the company staff to wear adult-sized kiddie clothing like overalls, high socks and rubber shoes. The managers should wear caps with propellers on top or pink or yellow dresses, so they can easily be distinguished.
- Setup – This theme is game-oriented. In-between the formal sections of an event, sneak in one or two contests based on childhood games (Trip to Jerusalem, 20 Questions, or Truth or Dare). Mascots, clowns and magicians will also appear on select parts of the program. Silly as the event may seem, everyone will have no choice but to reminisce the good times.
- Applicable Events – team building, company anniversary
6. Gypsy Theme
A gypsy-themed event will add an element of mystery to standard ceremonies. The mystique of tarot readers and beaded outfits will be the highlights as office people take turns in getting their fortunes taken and reciting poetry. This strange theme works best with creative companies such as ad agencies, publications and media outfits.
- Attire – The males should wear t-shirts with large sarongs slung on their necks. They can also wear cotton pants that match the predominant colors of their sarongs. As for the females, they should wear beaded skirts or pants and beaded halter tops. Wearing long beaded jewelry on their hair is advised.
- Setup – Each department will have a gypsy-related presentation. They can give a fine bellydance number, perform as a band, or do other artsy-fartsy stuff. After the games, anyone can come over the stage to recite poetry, sing songs or show off other skills. An art gallery can also be set up, if many of the company’s staff are artistic or adept at taking photographs or painting images.
- Applicable Events – team building, employee commemoration, awarding ceremonies, company anniversary
You have many factors to consider when picking a party theme. You can base your theme on popular movies and pop culture memorabilia if you want your event to have a general appeal. Themes that are centered around high school and college memories are usually a hit. You will know that your theme is successful when everyone acts as if the event is his or her own birthday celebration.

Being a member of the 80s pop culture myself, I really love number 4.
These are cool themes, but I don’t know if they’d work for a company event. Not unless the company was willing to pay for the costumes needed.
Ideas are ideas and these themes are good suggestions for our company. I’ll just refer to this entry from time to time.
Great ideas! I was helping my husband come up with ideas to host events for clients and we stocked up with office party supplies from ShindigZ.com.
