How to Overcome Procrastination
by Paul - All Posts By This Author

Many of us have plans, some of them may make all the difference in having a successful life or career. The problem is, not all of us are willing to make those plans real. Some people have a tendency to hide behind excuses, so they won’t act upon their obligations. Such excuses make up the term procrastination, which is defined as the postponement of actions to a later time. Why waste your life on silly concerns when you can set the world spinning at your own pace? There is no need for procrastination.
Time Management
A common excuse of people to not engage a promising venture or to not grab an opportunity is, they are simply too busy. Of course, everyone holds a ton of responsibilities in the house, at the office, and with personal relationships. You can always say that you are too tired to do anything else. If you properly segregate your daily activities, you can maximize the time for each, paving the way for more things done, say a personal project that you have always wanted to do but can’t. Create a daily timetable, mapping out the alloted time for each of your endeavors, including rest periods. You will notice that you have enough time to do side projects, moments for leisure and time for your family. (More tips on how to manage your time)
Build Your Skill Set
Many fear the thought of not having enough skills to make the bold first step to a promising venture. Instead of procrastinating, why not attend trainings or do the necessary measures to make yourself better? The path will not be easy, but the benefits are certainly rewarding. If you truly believe that you like what you’re pursuing, the positive results, themselves, will come to you. Just don’t break your integrity at all costs. You won’t regret it.
Have an Experienced Companion
For some people, you only need one person to improve your current situation or reach the top of your career. That person has more wisdom and experience than you in the field you wish to pursue. He or she can give you pointers and guidelines on how you can improve and be successful. If you start procrastinating, your companion will offer you words of motivation, pushing you back on track with your goal. Remember, not every seasoned individual merits as a mentor or guide. Choose one who will offer advice that you need to hear, not necessarily what you want to hear. Be selective.

Positive Reinforcement
Being too overwhelmed with your tasks as well as viewing them in a negative perspective can cause lead to procrastination. You may lose motivation, causing you to perform poorly and not meet your deadlines. Turn the situation around by picking off your tasks one-by-one, without focusing on your workload as a whole. After finishing a certain quantity of work, reward yourself with some free time or a cigarette (only for smokers) to freshen up your mind. You’ll return to your work reinvigorated. Just repeat the process and the number of overtimes you take in a month will surely decrease.
Don’t Delay, Life is a Race
The four previous strategies can help you reach your personal and professional goals. However, they will only work if you are motivated enough to follow them. If you are too lazy or too overwhelmed to start somewhere, later you might find yourself pondering on the years and opportunities you wasted. You shouldn’t delay your destined success, unless you truly have a good reason. Remember, life is a race. For more information regarding this article, read how to get rid of procrastination
