How to Pack Light

packing

Sometimes space management is not enough when packing for long trips, especially for short vacations (If you want travel vacation ideas, read Top ten hidden vacation gems). You need to pack light, so you can easily carry your luggage and have enough space for shopping and souvenirs. Besides, you can wash your used clothes, instead of hauling a lion’s share of your closet into your bag. Packing light is clearly a necessity. Better get used to that practice before summer draws to a close. Here are some tips that you can apply.

Bag with Different Pockets

packingShampoo bottles, water canteens, and other bulky containers take too much space when mixed with your clothes. Even if you neatly pile your clothes in corners, these items will still limit the space for other essentials. Instead of trying to force them into the compartment, you can purchase a bag with multiple pockets. The smaller pockets are used to fit small and bulky containers. Sports and hiking bags even have dedicated containers for water canteens and toiletries, which save much space in your luggage.

Laundry Over a Ton of Clothes

Shopping is a part of every trip, so be prepared to make some space in your bag. A good way to limit the number of clothes you bring is to include laundry items in your luggage. You will not run out of things to wear, since you can wash and rewash them. If there is a laundry service in or near the place you’re staying, you may bring only one bag and a few extra dollars for the service. Inquire with your travel agency or the place you will stay if there are laundry shops near the area.

The Dreaded Towel and Blanket

Unless you’re going camping or having a picnic, towels and blankets are better left at home. The towel, after getting wet, becomes heavier, so bringing your bag along becomes such a chore. Blankets, on the other hand, are simply bulky. The good news is, most places for lodging provide towels and blankets for your convenience. Just as management if you can use the place’s towels when you’re going to the beach. Their use is paid for anyway.

Sandals for Beach and Hiking Trips

Sneakers and hiking shoes are the preferred footwear for long walks, but they are simply too bulky to bring. You can settle for a pair of hiking sandals. These slippers are sturdily built, enduring almost any type of terrain, like their covered counterparts. They also have a rugged appeal, which makes them look cool. Just bring shoes if you plan to eat dinner at fancy restaurants.

Eat as You Go Along

Junk food and travel chow may not be heavy, but they can certainly take much room inside your bag. Popping their airtight containers will make them lose their crisp. What you can do is, buy only a few bags of chips, which takes care of your hunger until you reach the first stopover. Replenish your travel chow for every stopover, purchasing only a few each time. That way, you can free luggage space for all stops.

Plan Ahead

Nothing beats planning ahead. By breaking down all the essentials of your trip, you can tell how much clothing and other items you should bring. Inquire about lodging rates and vacation activities on the internet. The amount of clothing will depend on the number of days and the type of activities you wish to engage. If you have trouble totaling the ideal amount of clothes, you can always post inquiries on traveling forums, especially those that tackle your planned destination.

Get Accustomed to Packing Light

Packing light is not easy at first, since many people are scared by the thought that they might run out of things to wear. With these strategies, you can bring the right amount of luggage with ease. In the end, you’ll have an enjoyable and stress-free vacation. If you enjoyed reading this article, might as well read how to pack for a cruise.

I think a big (important) feature that is missing from this article is about packing clothing. I have two tips which I think are essential. One is that you should always pack clothing by rolling each piece before putting it into the suitcase. This creates so much more space, and if done right. also reduces wrinkling during travel.
The other important thing to learn is how to pick the right articles of clothing to pack. Pick items that can be mixed and matched in several combinations so you have only a few items to pack but will have many outfit variations. For example, a pair of jeans, a pair of shorts, a couple of t-shirts or tank tops, and a jacket will give you at least 6 different combinations you can put together so you’ve got enough clothing for a long trip but it only takes up a small amount of space.
